Music Directors Aravind
- Shankar - Interview
Aravind and Jai Shankar two youngsters
with a common interest joined hands to score music for films.
Oorukku Nooru Per was their first and followed by
Yei Nee Romba Azhaga Irukkey. With their third film
Kadhal FM being well received the duo is on to more
challenges. In an exclusive interview to Galatta.com the two
young men speak about their films.
Tell us about your background?
Aravind: I studied in BITS Pilani for Master of Management
Studies and M.Sc.Physics After completing the degrees I joined
Real Image and worked there for six months.
Music director, Shankar studied in Madras Christian College
and took his B.Sc. (Statistics).
How
did you both develop a taste for music?
Shankar: In 1979, there
was used to be regularly power break down in our area and
in the night to while away time my uncle taught me how to
play harmonium. I began to play the harmonium whenever I was
free.
Aravind: While I was studying in college I used to play base
guitar in college functions. I learnt it myself out of love
for music.
How did both of you come togethercomment?
Though we are from different colleges we live
in Abhirmapuram (Chennai). We came to know of each others’
interest through common friends. We decided to start composing
music together and we have come so far.
How
did you bag the other films?
Director Vikram K Kumar who is our friend was directing
a silent-movie, Silent Scream. The film has no dialogues
and we have to show our skills through music only. Though
it was a short film it won the National award. Following this
Director Vasanth who visited our studios one day heard some
of the jingles and other songs. He gave us a chance in Yei
Nee Romba Azhaga Irukkey. In the film we did the music
direction for Yamini Yamini song sung by Harish Raghavendra.
The film had five music directors and our song was a hit.
Kaadhal FM directed by V.Jaya Prakash is our latest
and the audio has been released. We hope it will bring some
more offers in the film world and till then we want to concentrate
on classical music.
Have you introduced any new voice in your music direction?
We have introduced Shudheep in the film. We expect
the singer to receive a positive feedback from the public.
Karthik, Timmy, Shubha, Sunitha Sarathy, Chinmayi and Srinivas
have also lent their voice in the film. From our next film
we want to introduce more new singers.
Music overshadows the voice of the singers in general.
Comment about it.
There are some songs like that. But when compared
to the music in Western countries ours is much better, we
are able to hear the voice of the singers.
What is special about your music?
At present we are doing what we know about music
and leave it to the public to give judgement. We are trying
to find our own place under the sun.
