Kamal - Interview
Kamal Hassan spoke to Galatta.com on the 50th
success day celebration of Virumaandi at the
function ‘Virundhu Padaikirar Virumaandi’. Excerpts
from the interview
Your experience on screening
of Virumaandi in USA.
The Whites enjoyed watching the film especially the
Bull fight scene and Anjelo Kathamuthu’s characterization.
I met the Hollywood director Meelosh Boreman who is
considered the guru to the film industry. I was very
happy to roam freely on the streets of USA unrecognized.
Played like a child with the children.
What is your next venture?
Two movies are on the pipeline. One is a Tamil, a family
entertainer produced and directed by me. It will be
a children’s film sans sex and violence. I would
be playing an important role in the film. The title
is yet to be decided and the other is a Telugu movie
directed by Sangeetham Srinivasa Rao.
Do you think Virumaandi would have been
a greater success if shot outdoors?
I don’t think so. Most of the English movies are shot
in the studios. If there is a strong storyline the film
will be a success irrespective of where it is shot.
Has pirated VCD affected Virumaandi?
There has been a damage of about 40%. Many approached
me saying that the sound effect was not up to the mark
in the film. I asked them which theatre did they see
the movie for which they told me they saw it in the
VCD. What can I do to them?
Your views on Actors and Actresses joining politics.
Ask me about actors and actresses, I will tell you.
It is their personal opinion about joining politics.
Even if all the actors join any political party I will
not join any political party.
Will you canvass for any political party in
the parliamentary elections?
Everyone knows that I will not canvass for any political
party so nobody has approached me.
Your opinion on the entry of newcomers to the
industry
Director K.Balachandar introduced two boys. That was
how the industry got Rajinikanth and me. A lot of newcomers
should come to the industry and they should act so well
that they should kick Rajini and me out.
