Kollywood is always known to try out latest trends and techniques of film-making. It is always hungry and craving for 'novel ideas'. This is what keeps Kollywood young and attractive always. It sometimes looks towards Hollywood for inspiration. And this time, it is taking cues from Hollywood for film promos.
In Hollywood, it is pretty common to bring out an album exclusively shot for promoting the film. The songs will showcase the movie. The characters of the movie sing about the film and its features, and give you an idea of what the film is about.
Subramaniyapuram, one of the upcoming movies in Kollywood,directed by Sasikumar, is going to be promoted in television and theatres by a special song trailer just like Hollywood. This song is being shot ONLY to promote the movie and will not be featured in the movie. In this trailer, the hero of the movie will be singing about the film. Though the film's time period is set in the 1980s, the hero, in this trailer, the hero will be dressed in contemporary style. It is a musical description of the movie by its own protagonist, replacing the usual method, where highlights of the movie are shown.
Though common in Hollywood as a part of film promotion, it has been tried only recently in some Hindi films. But this kind of promotion is the first of its kind in Kollywood. Hats off to the think-tank of Subramaniyapuram!
