Sibiraj, who got rave reviews for his role in Lee, is now working in Siddhartha, yet another film totally different from present day romantic movies.
Siddhartha will be directed by A. Siva, who had been an assistant to director K. Balachander. The movie, an indirect take on the life of Buddha, bypasses many of the common elements of commercial cinema -- there will be no villain or punch dialogues. Sibiraj will be portrayed as a young man who lives a carefree life and indulges in all the pleasures that life could possibly give. Finally, he undergoes a change of heart and decides to turn over a new leaf. But whether society allows him to change or not forms the crux of the story.
Karunas will provide comic relief. The female lead has not yet been decided; Vijay Anthony composes music; Velraj is the cinematographer; S. Sudhakar is producing this film under the banner of Friends Festival Films. Shooting is planned in Madurai and its surrounding areas.
It looks like Sibiraj is becoming an actor who chooses a film based on its subject matter. With a neat storyline and a director who has assisted K. Balachander, this film might be a turning point for Sibiraj.
