He thinks that he made a romantic thriller – Silandhi. But the fact is – producer Shankar has made history! Silandhi, which changed the way romantic thrillers are made in Kodambakkam, proved to be the launchpad which lifted him, Monica (Silandhi’s hot heroine), and debutante director Aadhi (a former journalist) to heights of fame. The film did roaring business not only in Tamil Nadu, but also in Tollywood. A proof of these observations: It was initially released in Chennai with 25 digital prints, but at the film distributors’ request, 60 ordinary film prints were developed to cater to the demand. A happy Shankar gifted a brand new Maruthi car to Aadhi, who was an integral part of the film’s success.
In fact, the effect of Silandhi’s business is still lingering fresh on every film distributor's mind. That is the reason some of them bought screening rights to Uthiram, a film to be produced by Shankar, even before its launch! Yes! As soon as word spread that producer Shankar will make a film soon, four distributors approached him, confirmed the news, and bought its rights for decent sums even before he could formally launch it.
Shankar, it is said, will produce a big budget film following Uthiram, which will feature a leading hero and heroine of Kollywood. The buzz is that he has decided to join hands with a big corporate for this production venture.
Now, will Uthiram will be as hot and exciting as Silandhi?! We will have to wait and watch.
