Saroja Devi hosted a party and a press meet after she was conferred with ‘lifetime achievement award’ and Sivaji award by Central and State governments respectively. The party, in which almost all the yesteryear actors came in to congratulate her, served as a nostalgic reunion for her. An overwhelmed Saroja Devi said, “I would be very happy if I die now. I would be able to say a final goodbye to all my beloved friends who have assembled here. I am very thankful to them for accepting my invitation. They made my day.”
Almost all the actors who acted with her attended the party. It was wonderful to see all the legends of Tamil Cinema – Vyjayanthimala Bali, S.S. Rajendran, Anjali Devi, M.N. Rajam, S. Varalakshmi, Manorama, Sachu, Deva Sena, and Saradha – assembled at one place. Actors Manjula, Vijaykumar, Sivakumar, Kutty Padmini, Y. Gee. Mahendran, Sarathkumar, Suhasini, Anu Haasan, and Prabhu were also present at the party. Director S.A. Chandrasekaran, Ram Kumar (Prabhu’s brother) and his family, Dr. Kamala Selvaraj (Gemini Ganesan’s daughter), and playback singer A.L. Raghavan were also present.
Everyone recalled their glorious days and reminisced about their experiences of working with Saroja Devi.
Saroja Devi profusely thanked every person who attended the function.
A special mention has to be made about Saroja Devi’s beauty. It looked like passing time had no effect on her. She looked as elegant and beautiful as she used to! Her sharp and sweet voice, for which she was famous, has not changed either.
