Pavan, who gained stardom through his villainous acts in movies, spoke to Galatta recently. He disclosed that he received immense appreciation from Superstar Rajinikanth when Polladhavan was screened to him in Four Frames Theatre. Pavan did the memorable role of “Out” in it. He has gained immense recognition in Kollywood, especially after Kuruvi. Vijay recently said that Pavan is an integral part of the success of Kuruvi.
He took Galatta through his career in a mini interview that he had with us today.
Pavan debuted in Jee, an Ajith starrer directed by Lingusaamy. He said that he owes his success to Ajith, who encouraged him throughout the film shooting, and to Lingusaamy, who gave importance to his scenes. With this kind of bright start, he marched on with confidence into his next film, the Sathyaraj starrer Englishkaran. Pavan said that he felt immense joy in acting with an actor who started his career as a villain and also that he received a lot of inputs from the veteran actor. Then he acted in Kalabakkadalan and Thimiru. He received accolades from his respective co-stars Arya and Vishal.
His fame spread to other parts of South India as well. He acted in Telugu and Malayalam movies as a villain. He gained popularity in Kerala after acting as a villain in Jenmam against Suresh Gopi. In fact, he became so popular that he was cast as one of the four heroes in July 4, a Dilip starrer.
Then came a chance to reunite with his favourite director, Lingusaamy, in Bheema, the role of an encounter specialist. He also got offers to act in Simbu’s Silambattam and Ajith's Aegan, but he missed them as he had dedicated his dates to Kuruvi.
Pavan said that the praise he got from Superstar Rajinikanth for the character named “Out” that he portrayed in Polladhavan, was like receiving an Oscar. The film was screened before Rajinikanth in Four Frames. Pavan was elated when Rajni came to him and hugged him to congratulate him. He says that he will cherish that moment for his life. And the excitement was still fresh in his voice when he recounted the event.
Gaining fame even after enacting a negative role in a movie is something very tough; even tougher is a villain gaining entry as a hero and being accepted by the audience. A villain gets bashed up in a movie. He is despised by everyone. Also, the audience might end up sublimating their personal anger and frustration by hating and cursing the villain. Now, to make a viewer see through all this and recognise his talent for portraying evil is virtually a mission impossible. Very few have done it; Pavan is certainly one among them. He has achieved a commendable feat that the likes of Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj have done earlier. It is a class act. It will not be a surprise if he turns a hero some day. Hats off to Pavan!
