Aamir Khan humbly donated the cash prize (Rs.1.5 lakhs) which was part of the Gollapudi Srinivas Award bestowed upon him to M.G.R. Film City. The actor was moved to tears by the attention he received at the award ceremony, especially K. Balachander’s moving speech. The actor touched the feet of the ace director as a mark of respect before he collected his award from him. Not just K. Balachander, all the eminent guests of the evening – Anupam Kher, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Jagjit Singh, founder of Gollapudi Srinivas foundation Mr. Maruthi Rao – exalted Aamir.
A special short film on Gollapudi Srinivas by Rajiv Menon screened at the function received a standing ovation from the audience. The award function was also graced with a performance from eminent ghazal singer Jagjit Singh and the ceremonial speech by Anupam Kher.
The Gollapudi Srinivas Award is an award that recognizes the talent of a debutante director. The award was instituted by Maruthi Rao, who lost his son Gollapudi Srinivas in a freak drwoning accident in the sea near Vizag while he was filming his first film Prema Pusthakam.
