The closing ceremony of the Ability Fest 2007, a unique film fest by, with and about people with disabilities was held on Ocotber 8th. This year, 208 films from all over the country were in the fray for the '60 seconds to fame' competition. The venue for the festival was Woodlands theatre.
For the closing ceremony, many dignitaries from the film fraternity were present to support and spread awareness about the differently-abled. Those present on the occasion were Govind Nihalani, Hariharan, AVM Saravanan, Parthiban, Balu Mahendra, Dev Benegal, Revathy and festival director P.K. Nair.
The films that won top honours were Reach Out, an animation film by Dinesh Ross and Samuel Raj, Yavaraiyum Mathithu Vaazh (Respect All) by R. Hariharakrishnan and Chal by Havesh and Jayesh. Two films, Blend by Shalini Aggarwal and Mute Poet by Balaji were given special mention. The jury members included Govind Nihalani, Nafisa Ali, Dev Benegal, Ravi K. Chandran, Salil Chaturvedi and Neenu Kewlani.
Screening of the yesteryear silent film Shiraz starring Himanshu Rai was the highlight of the evening. Sriram Parasuram, Anuradha Sriram and other musicians presented a live musical performance.
