Sometimes life is very unjust to some persons, many of them being highly talented. Some get tired and give up. But there are some who never give up. They are so adamant that they never accept the destiny written for them; they write their own destiny. One such person is Achutha Raman.
Achutha Raman in an extremely talented music director, a child prodigy who earned his doctorate in music from Madras University. Music is everything for him. He has worked as a music teacher/lecturer in L.V. Prasad Music College and has also done a short-term course from Pune Music College. He is a trained musician in various forms of music; Western Classic, Indian Classic, folk (he has done extensive research in this field), and so on. You name it, he plays it!
His musical journey is interesting. Every one has a basic survival instinct. Even that instinct is laced with music for this gentleman. He has been composing music for 15 years for innumerable documentaries, short films and animation films. But a chance to work in a feature film kept eluding him. But unlike others, he never gave up. Today, he has got a chance to work in a Kannada film. A part of his dream is realized. Now he is working towards the rest of it. It will not be long before he will work for a Tamil film too, for he is a determined and talented man for whom music is everything.
The following paragraphs will make any one understand the calibre of this great artist:
He started composing music as a child (from age nine). At age 12, he was writing scripts for dramas in his school and he also composed the background music for them. Background music has always been his forte. A trained artist in Western Classical and Indian Classical, he was always at ease composing myriad scores of background music in no time.
His achievements: Innumerable jingles (for many important ads that we see on cable TV), short films (the best being a short film on bio diesel and its advantages), documentaries and animation films (Power of Silence is the most recent).
To impress filmmakers and to showcase his talent, Acutha has created about 100 different background scores and tunes and is maintaining them in his private library. Any one who hires him will enjoy the fruits of his hard work – readymade background scores and tunes for films in no time. In fact, this collection is the one that got him the Kannada film. The eclectic collection shows the depth of his experience
His most impressive work: Giving new tune and new life to Bharatiyar Kavithaigal. Yes! He has rendered “Kakkai Siraginilae” in his style and is on a journey to establish it. When one thinks about this poem, he or she will only remember the famous rendition by L. Vaidyanathan. He has composed his new rendition of “Kakkai….” in such a way that it will become well-established like its predecessor. When he played it for Galatta.com, it rendered the listeners motionless; so captivating were the tunes.
Achutha Raman’s music is eclectic and divine. It is quite mysterious why a musician who composes music on par with A.R. Rahman or Yuvanshankar Raja or Karthik Raja, has not been utilized by Tamil film industry. When Kannada film industry can identify him, why not Kollywood?
