Friday’s hunger strike by Kollywood stars has been a huge success. Many prominent stars and technicians turned up for the event, expressing their solidarity.
However, quite a few big names failed to turn up for the event, which is creating a huge debate in Kollywood circles. Some are even of the opinion that strict action should be taken against the absentees who failed to turn up.
In this context, a meeting has been called for at the Tamil Film Producers' Council to decide on the course of action that would be taken against the absentees. Speaking to the media, Nadigar Sangam President Sarathkumar said that 96 persons have sent letters explaining why they couldn’t turn up for the event. He added that the meeting would decide on the action that would taken against those who have not sent explanatory letters.
Some of the notable personalities who failed to turn up for the event include directors Bharathiraja, Shankar, Mani Ratnam, Thankar Bachan, music directors A.R. Rahman, Ilayaraja, actors Karthik, Napoleon, Asin, Suhasini, Revathi, etc.
Sarath also defended Rajinikanth’s statements during the event. Rajnikanth’s statements have created a huge furore in Karnataka and some pro-Kannada organisations have threatened not to screen the actor’s films in future. The meeting, which takes place today at 5.30 p.m., will also decide on the course of action to be taken on this issue.
