One of Telugu film industry’s handsome faces, Shoban Babu, the star of many a film during the 60s and 70s passed away at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai this morning. The 70-year-old actor is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.
Shoban Babu debuted on screen with a minor role in Daivabalam. After many such appearances, the actor debuted as a hero in Veerabhimanyu. The film was one of the biggest hits of the year 1965.
A suave looking actor, Shoban was very popular among the ladies. Such were his looks that he was even dubbed Andhra Andagadu (Andhra’s most handsome person). The on-screen chemistry between Shoban Babu and actress Sharada was very popular with almost all of their films turning out to be superhits.
The film that made him a big star was Manushulu Maarali. That he was popular during the days of the legendary N.T. Rama Rao and Nageshwara Rao is a proof of his screen presence.
Shoban Babu has won many State Awards and Filmfare Awards during the course of his three-decade-old career. Some of his memorable films include Soggadu, Sharadha, Ramalalayam, Sampoorna Ramayanam among many others. He was honoured with the ‘Natabooshana’ title.
Unlike many stars who never retire from films, Shoban Babu chose to hang up his boots when he was at the peak of his career. He has maintained a very low profile ever since, never appearing at public functions.
The last rites of this great actor will be performed in Andhra Pradesh. Galatta.com offers its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
