Almost the entire Kollywood gathered at the late actor M.N. Nambiar’s Gopalapuram residence to pay homage. Even a stranger to this country who has absolutely no idea about Nambiar, would have been able to estimate his magnificence from the number of grief-struck visitors paying homage to him. The stranger would have found himself grief-stricken, not just sympathizing if he took a look at the late actor's face which still personifies an eternal tranquility, goodwill and heightened perception of life.
There were politicians, actors, fans, friends, relatives, and every one opined that we have lost a wonderful human being. Actor Rajinikanth said that Nambiar was a “pious soul”; overwhelmed Srikanth, barely able to talk, said that this is a very big loss and that is not possible to find a human being like him. An emotional Manorma recalled how he would make everyone laugh on the sets during breaks. She said that he was a true hero in real life. Actress-turned-politician Jayalalithaa too reminisced about the good old days and said that she has the highest regards for him, adding that he was a hero in real life. And that is how many described him: A genuine hero in real life.
The thespian, 89, had been ailing since three months and died peacefully in his sleep yesterday at about 1:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife Rukmini, sons Sukumaran and Mohan, and daughter Snehalatha who is married to actor Sarath Babu.
The funeral would take place at Besant Nagar crematorium at 3:30 p.m.
