The Society Collection is India's foremost exhibition of arts, crafts and artefacts held in Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad since its inception in 1991. This year, as always, the collection promises to showcase a fabulous array of exclusive products that include ethnic and Indo-western designer wear, traditional and contemporary jewellery, pottery, Ganeshas, hand-crafted leather, hand-embroidered and woven saris, silverware, carpets, hair accessories and much more.
The highlight of The Society Collection is a vibrant collection of exclusive hand-picked crafts from artists and craftsmen from different parts of the country like Bastar, Assam, Jaipur, Lucknow, Agra, Dahod, Kutch, Bhilai, Muzzafarnagar, Kalpi, Chittorgarh, Orissa, Himachal, Pondicherry, etc. As a catalyst for Indian creativity, both traditional and avant garde, the Collection fulfils a unique niche today. Its protective umbrella has enabled a legion of deserving artistes and craftsmen to make an impact on some of the country's most important and possibly most discerning markets like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Hyderabad.
For the organizers of The Society Collection and its sponsors Society magazine, the concept of the exhibition is reward enough. Any profits above actual cost are given to charity. The exhibition which is currenly in Rani Meyammai Hall, Chennai was inaugurated by actor Prashanth, Shruthi Haasan and Deepika Pallikal.
