Arts can effectively be used in so many ways to deal with increasing awareness about AIDS, says David Gere, of 'Make Arts Stop AIDS Campaign'.
Speaking in a programme organised by the U.S. Consulate in Chennai on Tuesday Mr. Gere, brother of famous Hollywood actor Richard Gere, said that arts could not only improve awareness but also work towards clarifying myths, revealing truths and also to educate people about AIDS.
The creative platform could be used by film persons, dancers, puppeteers and artists belonging to the medium to communicate facts about the condition. Gere has been in touch with artists from India to explore this aspect and put it to effective use.
Actor Karthi Sivakumar, who spoke at the function, remarked about the impact of messages put across through films.
Actress Rohini, who also spoke at the event, said that students should take up the responsibility of spreading the right message. She also added that the message should particularly address adolescents in the age 15 to 28, the exact category prone to experiment with such things in life. Rohini has already made short films on HIV and AIDS.
Rajini Gupta (U.S. Consulate and Cultural affairs) said that the programme is part of U.S.'s step towards eradicating HIV and AIDS.
