Ashwin Shekar, son of yesteryear comedian S.Ve. Shekar, made his debut with Vegam last year. The film, a remake of the Hollywood superhit Cellular, was an average grosser.
Now, Ashwin is quite busy with two films in hand. The first is Ninaivil Nindraval, where he is paired with Keerthi Chawla, to be directed by director Vasanth’s assistant.
The second film that Ashwin is excited about it Manal Kayiru – Part 2. Manal Kayiru, which had Ashwin’s dad S.Ve. Shekar in the lead role, one of best comedies of the 80s, was about a groom who lays conditions on his prospective bride only to find that the girl he marries is a total contrast to his tastes. In addition to its hilarity, the film was also lauded for its message that was very much relevant to that time.
The sequel will be set in the current period and will follow a similar plot, the only change being that it is the bride who lays the conditions. S.Ve. Shekar himself will be directing this film. Manal Kayiru was one of Shekar’s biggest hits in his entire career. One hopes the sequel will do for the son what the original did for the father.
