Yuvan, by putting in his best efforts, has given Billa 2007 the kind of music that befits the suave gangster of modern cinema. His music-making prowess rises from every composition and settles over us like a silver lining, making us think "A chip of the old block". The variety from song to song showcases his extraordinary efforts towards producing music of international quality without forgetting the Indian roots. With a couple of dazzling remixes and some great original compositions in Pa Vijay's lyrics, Billa 2007 is no exception to Yuvan's youthful compositions!
Billa's Theme Music
The enigma that is Billa, the modern-day avatar of the yesteryear don, is sensed in even the softest note of Billa's theme music. Intimidating and powerful like the don himself, the instrumental is an apt piece of music that defines the don in its own wordless way. Leaving an aura of mystery and establishing the restless action packed life of the don, the theme music is made to match the magnitude of the don's grandeur.
'My Name is Billa' by KK & Naveen
In keeping with the remix trend, Yuvan has produced two remixes-striking contrasts to the originals in terms of the tune. But we can trust that they will do just as well. First there is 'My Name is Billa'-M.S. Viswanathan's original, which is yet a hot fave with audiences. Yuvan's version is an absolute contrast to the original, but an equally interesting composition! The most striking part is the whistling, an innovative inclusion, giving the song the uber-cool effect. With beats that you could walk the ramp for, this is the song for the sleek don of today. Sung by KK and Naveen, the song with its faster beats and digital tones is sure to match the original in popularity.
'Vethalaya Potendi' by Shankar Mahadevan
The other remixed tune is 'Vethalaya Potendi', sung by Shankar Mahadevan. It is a tune altogether different from the original. It's almost impossible to find any relation to the first version. Yuvan has treated the song like his own and composed a completely fresh composition with a twang of heavy metal blended into the kuthu rhythms!
'Naan Meendum' by Deepika
There are two sizzling hot original compositions. The first is 'Naan Meedum' which is enticing, yet the stepped-up beats in the interludes impart a sense of intrigue, hinting at the possible twists in the plot.
'Sei' by Neha Bhasein & Preethi Bhalla
'Sei' is the other hot number. Another experiment in Arabic style of music, that seems to be Yuvan's latest fad. The instrumentation is proof of the musician's versatility. The interludes are fascinating pieces that will put a sway in your hips; at other places, they may put you in a trance.
'Seval Kodi' by Vijay Jesudas
'Seval Kodi' in the voice of Vijay Jesudas is another pacey track; only this time, it's dedicated to Lord Murugan. A stark contrast from the intimidating instrumental that precedes the song, this is a stepped-up piece of piety that combines folk music with urban beats. Interestingly composed, quite obviously this is the non-don Ajith's song-a lighthearted happy rendition.
Billa 2007 is shaping up to be an all-round treat indeed!
