Since the film fraternity announced that it would protest the killing of Sri Lankan Tamils by the Lankan army, the Nadigar Sangam too jumped into the fray and said that a fast to protest the killing of Sri Lankan Tamils would be held in Chennai on November 1st.
The Directors' and Producers’ Council, who are organizing the Rameswaram fast, said that over 2000 actors, directors, technicians and production people have given their support for this protest.
This morning, cine artistes and other members of the technical field started out to Rameswaram at around 11 a.m. The train bound for Rameswaram had around 20 extra bogies attached to accommodate all the technicians, producers, artistes. Some actors chose not to go as they will participating in the fast in Chennai.
As a result of this mass protest, many movie productions have been stalled as the technicians have come out in full support of the plight of the Sri Lankan Tamils.
