Shakti Extratainment (http://shaktiextratainment.com) is the first global Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) channel based from Chennai and was launched on the 4th of July. This channel was recently launched in California and will be made available in India shortly.
Chitravina N. Ravikiran, Chairman of Shakti Extratainment Global Television welcomed the invitees and said the channel will offer shows through a special IPTV set top box (STB), designed by the U.S.-based Verismo Networks. IPTV essentially enables viewers to access TV content through technology used for computer networks. The STB designed for this venture will enable users to download programmes onto their television from the Internet (broadband).
The channel will offer shows on a 'watch-at-will' basis which could be accessed on television with the STB.
Veteran film director K. Balachander, N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, M. Murali, managing director Sri Krishna Sweets also spoke on the occasion.
