Tamil Mayam announced the Give Life Chennai Marathon yesterday at a press meet. The dignitaries present at the press meet included Kanimozhi (MP), actors Gowthami, Prashanth and Arya and former cricketer Srikanth.

The run, scheduled for August 31st 2008, will bring together people from all walks of life, running together for a social cause. The proceeds from the run will be given to the Give Life Project which provides support to thousands of deserving poor children in form of fees, uniforms, books, nutritional porridge breakfast, life skills, soft skills and career guidance. This effort is directed towards arresting child labour, trafficking of children and several such children-related issues.
The run will be in six categories: Marathon for men (21.09 km), Marathon for women (21.09 km), Great Chennai Run (7 km), Jil Jil Run (5 km), Veterans' Run (4 km) and Wheelchair Run (3 km).
Other special categories include Theme Run, Best Costume Run, Run for a Cause and Corporate, Institutional Social Group Run.
The Total Prize money for the run is Rs. 50 lacs and the first prize is Rs. 10 lacs.
