Kamal Hassan is one celebrity who uses his star status for the betterment of the helpless. Recently, the actor was at the forefront at Hridaya Ragam, a dance and musical show organised by the World Malayalam Council to raise funds for treating 125 poor kids with congenital heart diseases.
Arriving on stage to a standing ovation from the crowd at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Kamal obliged the audience by singing a couple of songs ('Ninaivo Oru Paravai' from Sigappu Rojakkal and 'Kiliye' from a Malayalam film) much to their delight.
A host of celebrities from the Malayalam and Tamil film industry came together for this noble initiative. Veteran Malayalam music directors Dakshinamoorthy, Ousepachan and M.K. Arjunan, current composers Vidyasagar, Jassie Gift, singers P. Jayachandran, Tippu, Sujatha, Karthik, George Peter, Ganga, Manjari and noted Malayalam director Vinayan were among the celebrities who graced the occasion. Mention must be made that none of the celebrities charged a penny for appearing at the event.
Actress-danseuse Shobana and her students regaled the audience with a wonderful Bharatnatyam performance during the evening.
The organisers handed over a cheque worth Rs. 75 lakhs to the Madras Medical Mission for the treatment of the kids.
