The underdog team Rajasthan Royals won the most coveted trophy of IPL. Last night, the latest form of entertainment, IPL, gave its followers all that it could offer. RR scripted a last-ball win in the finals yesterday.
Mumbai’s Patil stadium came alive yesterday. The grand final evening of IPL began with a very spectacular closing ceremony in which stars of Bollywood performed, followed by an incredible acrobatic show and a breathtaking laser show. It was a grand show and its effect was very obvious on the foreign cricketers who watched the proceedings, agape and mesmerized. The main attraction was Aamir Khan and Sachin Tendulkar, who came with his family.
Following this ceremony, Shane Warne won the toss and invited Chennai Super Kings to bat first. CSK managed to score 164 runs with some good performances from Patel, Raina, and Dhoni. Royals slowly inched towards the target with good contributions from Asnodkar, Watson, Yusuf Pathan, and the brave Md. Kaif, who decided to play even after injuries to his face and neck.
Shane Warne, a very determined captain who took a team which is a mixture of recruits and a few experienced players to the final, was destined to be in the middle of the action. Sohail Tanvir and he held their nerves in the final over which went until the last ball and ensured Rajasthan Royals emerged as the winners.
There was a fan in the crowds who held up a very interesting and fitting placard for Shane Warne – 'Shane Warne, coach of India, 2011 World Cup'. With the way he has scripted a wonderful victory making use of an underdog team, he might very well end up getting that position.
Six weeks of IPL finally culminated in a very fitting finale leaving everyone excited and happy. Even the supporters of the runner-ups, though disappointed for a while, were filled with the joy of having watched incredible cricket and admiration for the underdog team which snatched the grand prize.
