Isai Gnani Ilayaraja runs a literary association that recognizes the work of writers and poets. Recently, it felicitated eminent writer Jayakanthan by making a documentary on him, a fitting tribute to the literary giant who has a very unique style of writing, lucid and profound. He is a great writer whose name will always be remembered whenever Tamil literature is discussed.
This documentary is a feature on his writing style, what literary critics say about him, and touches upon many of his literary works. The documentary is named “Ellaigalai vistharitha Eluthu Kalaignan” which means “An artist who stretched the boundaries (of literature) through his writing”.
This documentary has been conceptualized, written and directed by Ravi Subramaniam and shot by cameraman Chezhian, who also was the cameraman for Kalluri. The music is by none other than the maestro himself – Isai Gnani Ilayaraja. Editing is by Manohar R.G.P.
The premiere screening of this documentary coincided with the annual literary prize distribution of the Ilayaraja Literary Association. The grand event was presided over bychief guest A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who released the documentary; director Bharathiraja received the first copy of this film. Lyricist Na. Muthukumar also received an award at this function under the category of "best young writers".
