Director Jananathan’s directorial debut Iyarkai was critically acclaimed and even won a National Award. Now, there is a possibility that his story was lifted and used by another director without his permission.
Considering the success of his movie, Jananathan was toying with the idea of remaking the same in Hindi, which is quite the trend today. A Hindi movie producer approached him and said he wanted to watch the movie, with the intent of considering producing its Hindi remake. Jananathan consented. Even before that person got back to Jananathan, he got the news that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Diwali release Saawariya, has hijacked the story of Iyarkai. Jananathan is very upset that a director of such stature would do such a thing. Will he press charges?
