These days, Kollywood has been witnessing heroes undergoing complete makeovers and morphing into their onscreen persona. They either gain or lose weight, gain muscles or change their looks, grow their hair or shave their heads. They try all that is possible under the sun. Their dedication levels are reaching new heights. Their artistic hunger makes them impervious to the pain or discomfort that their work gives to them.
In the same manner, Jayam Ravi is giving his 100% to Peraanmai. He has done most of the stunts in this film without the help of body doubles. In one particular shot, he spent an entire day hanging from a tree branch ignoring the pain (half-a-day was spent on shots without wires). Imagine the pain the actor had to bear hanging from a tree branch without any support!
He is featured as a strong young man from a scheduled tribe who becomes a forest officer with some help from reservation quota. But his detractors downplay his capabilities; they keep harping on his selection under the reservation quota. He proves his true worth to everyone and his enemies are dumbstruck. The physical demands that the film will place on the protagonist is quite understandable from the theme itself. And Jayam Ravi has done a very commendable job. He looks like the muscled men of Hollywood – like Sylvester Stallone or Will Smith. He has paid good attention to details pertaining to his role. His appearance is totally different from what we have seen so far.
