On this day last year, director-cum-cameraman Jeeva left this world forever. His death due to a cardiac arrest while in Russia, filming for Dham Dhoom, was a huge loss for the film fraternity. The industry is full of cameramen and directors who look up to him for inspiration. He is survived by his wife Anees and three children.
This eminent director-cinematographer has directed films like 12B, Ullam Ketkumae, Unnale Unnale, Run (Hindi). He also worked as cameraman in Hindi films like Hera Pheri, Hulchul, and Baghban.
Recently, Anees fulfilled Jeeva’s dreams of producing films; she has started Vision Jeeva Studios and is producing Muthirhai (also spelt as Muthirai), which stars Lakshmi Rai, Nithin Sathya, Daniel Balaji and Manjari. This film also fulfils one more dream of Jeeva; he wanted his assistant director Srinath to direct a film produced by Jeeva. And now, Srinath is directing Muthirai.
Saleem, one of Jeeva’s students, is the cinematographer; students like him and Srinath make sure Jeeva’s style lives on.
His soul will rest in peace in heaven knowing that his dreams have been realized and his style will live on through his students. It is very thoughtful of his soul-mate, Anees, to have strived hard to fulfil his dream. Well, maybe this is what overcoming death is all about. Maybe this is what immortality is all about.
