The Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation announced the winner of the Foundation's 11th National award for 2007. Aamir Khan has been chosen to get the award this year for his directorial debut, Taare Zameen Par. The film, which has already won lot of critical as well as audience acclaim since its release, was selected from among the 19 nominations.
The award was announced at a press conference yesterday by Kamal Haasan in the presence of the Managing Trustees, Sri Gollapudi Maruthi Rao and Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. The award carries a cash award of Rs. 1,50,000 and a memento.
This award has been constituted in the memory of Gollapudi Srinivas, a young director who passed away in an accident while shooting his maiden venture in 1992.
Earlier winners of the award include Leslie Carvalho, Shyama Prasad, Manju Bora, Subrata Sen, Janaki Viswanathan, Ram Madhvani, Anup Kurian, Shonali Bose, Mohana Krishna and Rajneesh Domalapalli.
The award ceremony will be held in the month of August.
