Kanna marks debutante Anandh's entry into Kollywood as director. Anandh has worked under Parthiban, K. Rajeshwar and Saba. The movie will showcase his unique style in chiselling the film like poetry on celluloid, devoid of violence and obscenity.
The movie deals with the father-daughter relationship. The father showers unconditional love on his beloved daughter, whereas the girl, being young and naďve, goes through a tormenting phase before she identifies herself and her relationship with her loving father.
Telugu actor Raja and Sheela make the lead pair. As Sheela's father, we have Prakash Raj. Seetha plays his wife.
Music is by Ranjith Barot. After his composition for VIP, Kanna will be a comeback for the music director.
'Azhagiya Pennae Unnal' has used an interesting fusion harmony. Karthik's voice takes on a bold timbre and gives a matching feel.
'Kuyil Padum' is a lush melody. It starts with a moderate pace but adopts a sudden increase in tempo. Shreya Ghoshal, Vigneshwaran, and Nandhini Srikar's voices course through a nice, happy journey.
'Sembaruthi Pookanaka' demonstrates the longing for love. Mukhesh ably picks the lead provided by Manicka Vinayagam and synchronizes along with him; Vinaya follows subsequently. The nagaswaram piece in the ensemble highlights the folk feel.
Hariharan navigates and touches the secret corners in listeners' hearts through the sweet sorrow he expresses in 'Aayiram Kelvigal'.
Sujatha's voice flows gracefully mellifluous throughout 'Ragasiya Kanna'. Ranjith Barot 's humming adds a good dimension to the melody.
'Thullum Thullalil' is a fun-number. Mahalakshmi Iyer's high-pitched energetic voice is in pleasant contrast with Balraman's soft, sweet tone.
