Permission was sought by the Kollywood representatives to use the Chepauk Grounds as the venue for the proposed hunger strike tomorrow. The entire Tamil cinema fraternity will participate in this demonstration condemning the attack against Tamilians, their establishments and theatres screening Tamil films in Karnataka.
The seriousness of the strike is evident in the fact that shooting for Tamil films within and outside of the country will come to a standstill. Any Kollywood member who absents himself from the strike will not receive any support from any of the Tamil cinema-related associations within the state. So does this mean that the otherwise elusive Kollywood dons will actually participate? Well, it does seem so.
Rajinikanth, who was busy with Kuselan in Hyderabad, returned to base yesterday. Kamal Haasan will join the striking troupes by mid-day tomorrow. Ajith, who was out of the country and Vijay, who was on the verge of leaving, have both changed their programmes for the sole purpose of being a part of the demonstration. Moreover, theatres in the state screening Tamil movies, will not screen any movies all day till 6 p.m. This means the first show of Yaaradi Nee Mohini will take place only at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
