Thrills and chills is not that popular as a genre in Tamil. Our folks would much rather watch a mass entertainer or a light-hearted comedy, than experience the eerie power of the undead on the silver screen. The only supernatural powers that are popular here are the ‘God movies’. But recently, we’ve seen a few thrillers hit the screens and do reasonably well. And now a band of spine-chillers are getting ready to haunt us!
Leelai with Madhavan, Sada and Shamitha Shetty is packaged with some ghostly moments that are going to scare us out of our wits! For Madhavan, after movies like Thambi and Evano Oruvan, a horror flick seems like a deviation! It’s said that Leelai borders on the story of the Hindi movie Darling, where the dead lover returns to torment her murderer. So which lovely lady is going to haunt Madhavan’s nights? Sada or Shamitha? Is he really going to complain?!
The Saranya and Mumtaj starrer Thik Thik, shooting for which started on 5th December, promises some chilling horror as well. Directed by Egore and produced by Guru Muneeswaran under the i Movies banner, this is Saranya’s comeback and hopefully it will help her land some good roles. For those who thought Mumtaj was only a glam doll, this movie will show you her other side. From the look of the promos, we get the feeling that she is going to play the possessed woman. Spirits have great taste indeed!
But if you thought ghosts always took the form of humans to torment us, then you are sadly mistaken. Moondram Pournami, directed by Ravindhar, is about the ghost of a young woman that takes the form of water to kill those responsible for her death. Preethi Varma [possibly the wronged girl], Doctor Ram, Muraliraj, Livingstone, Alex, Divya Nair and Pallavi form the cast of this blood-curdling horror flick. Shooting for the movie is complete, but the VFX crew is busy working on the ghostly effects for the movie.
When these movies hit the screens, don’t forget to wear your chains of garlic pods as you get ready to be terrified by the forces from the spirit world!
