Associate to Gautam Menon, Madhumitha is now busy with her first full-length feature film Vallamai Tharayo with Chaya Singh and Parthiban. Shooting for the movie is on in full swing and shaping up very well. As can be expected of a lady director, this movie is the sensitive portrayal of a woman torn between her relationships, her own feelings and her desires. Madhumitha’s father, who owns a coal mine, had always promised to finance his daughter’s first movie. He has kept to his promise by taking on the role of producer for his daughter’s maiden movie.
Vallamai Tharayo is Madhumitha’s first feature film, but she has already directed a couple of award-winning short films while completing a media course in Singapore. Impressed with her short film Untitled Red, the Singapore government sponsored her eduction in film making and sent her to America. She then went on to make Yours Affectionately, the story of a parentless young girl who endures a lot of emotional pain while growing up her aunt and uncle's home. This film was screened at a film festival and earned her 21 awards! It was after this that she came to India, assisted Gautam in two films and then started work on her own.
She has proved herself abroad, will she do so on home ground? We’ll see soon enough!
