Mani Rathnam is a master. He is a genius, he is well known for treading on the paths unknown. So here is another first from Madras Talkies. Guru the latest venture from Madras Talkies is the first Indian film to be digitally mastered to the international DCI JPEG2000 standard and it is also the first Indian film to be premiered internationally in the digital format.
The premiere of Guru that took place at Toronto’s Elgin Winter Garden Theatre saw the presence of the film’s big guys (and gal) Mani Ratnam, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, AR Rahman and Rajiv Menon among others. Christie provided a 2K CP2000 projector for the screening and of course the Qube XP-D multi-format digital cinema server was used for playback of the flawless picture, sound and subtitles.
Mani Ratnam, Rajiv Menon and AR Rahman all complimented the excellent quality of the presentation at the premiere. QubeMaster was used for the JPEG2000 encoding as well as for the MPEG-2 encoding used for the E-Cinema release of the film in India and for the first time again, in the US as well.
