Manisha Koirala is playing a new role now – that of a spiritual guru to an actor from Hollywood. Gerard Butler, the fame of films like 300 and The Phantom, turns to Manisha Koirala for help with respect to his spiritual journey. Gerard Butler is a member of Chennai’s Oneness University, which teaches spirituality. It became quite famous in the West when Demi Moore attended its classes.
Manisha Koirala has been its active member for a long time. When Butler attended the classes in Chennai, he met Manisha and they struck a friendship. He declared to her that he has been feeling elated and peaceful ever since he joined Oneness University. He also confided in her about his apprehension that he might not feel peaceful once he leaves Oneness University and might forget the teachings of the University once back home. But Manisha was kind enough to give him her share of spiritual knowledge and tips to stay connected with it. She shared with him the knowledge that she had garnered over the last few years. Butler calls Manisha off and on to get his doubts regarding spirituality cleared and get new tips on staying connected to the practice taught at Oneness.
Manisha has been declining a lot of film offers and has been concentrating on her spiritual side. She also said that she has lost her interest in the usual film roles offered to her and would like to do something big in acting. She said that the surge of spirituality in her has given rise to immense creativity, which she would like to channel through directing films. She said that she would like to work on some profound subject. She had just completed a course on editing and directing from New York University.
She said “'I know I have it in me. Some day soon I'll direct a film. But it has to be a natural process. I won't persuade myself to do anything I don't believe in. I never have. I've been approached by some responsible producers and I might just take the plunge”.
She said that she had always been a seeker and she was introduced to this University by a close Danish filmmaker friend and she decided to stay at this place and enjoy the spiritual solace it had to give. This explains her absence from Mumbai and films recently.
She also said that she is seeking a partner, who is also spiritually inclined, in order to help her stay in touch with spirituality for life time. She said “In fact, the man I'm seeing right now is also very spiritual. At this stage, I needed a companion who'd share my passion for spiritualism. I'm trying to get him interested in the Oneness course.”
