With the announcement of tax exemptions for Tamil titles for films, there has been a flurry of activity with producers and filmmakers changing their film names to totally Tamil ones. Some grumble "restriction to creative freedom" as some naming decisions are taken to the extreme with even common-usage names being vetoed for their non-Tamil feel (for example, Auto is now Oram po). One wonders, which Tamil person has ever called an auto by any other name!!! Moonu chakkara vaahanam?? We think not! and others don't really care, but it is difficult to find a Tamil film with a title anything less than a very Tamil one!
Another film to join this name-change race is the Vasan Karthik-Midhuna-starrer Tiptop whose name has now been changed to Mamadurai. The film, which revolves around the simple and tried-and-tested story of a poor man falling in love with a not-so-poor girl (Vasan's character works as a coolie in the Railways and Midhuna's is a college girl) has direction by K.K. Krishnan, music by Karthick Raja (who has given us some beautiful songs in films like Dumm Dumm Dumm) and cinmetography by Karthik.
The film is produced by K.G.P. for Thainaadu Creators.
