With only one more week remaining before the release of Oscar films’ big budget film Dasavatharam, it seems that the production firm has been dragged in to a litigation which revolves around the copyright of its name ‘Oscar’. The production house, which has already gone through several controversies regarding the religious aspects of the film, has been sued by the Academy of Motion Pictures in America better known for their Oscar awards.
Two applications have been filed against Oscar films before the Trademark authorities about the unauthorized usage of the name and symbol. Oscar films use the picture of the Oscar statuette as its logo. Oscar films, owned by Oscar Ravichandran, have so far produced 16 films and most of them were hits.
Oscar Films rose to fame when it distributed Jackie Chan films in the 80s and made Chan a household name. His friendship with Chan rose to its peak when Chan attended the audio launch of Dasavatharam in Chennai.
