Ameer's Paruthiveeran took top honours, winning 6 awards at the 55th Filmfare Awards -South yesterday. The film won all the four top actor awards, best actor (male) for Karthi, best actor (female) for Priyamani, best supporting actor (male) for Saravanan and best supporting actor (female) for Saranya. It also won the best film trophy for producer Gnanavel Raja AND Ameer walked away with the best director's award.

The best music award went to A.R. Rahman for Sivaji; S. P. Balasubramanium got the best playback singer (male) for 'Kannal Pessum Penne' from Mozhi; Sadhna Sargam got the best playback singer (female) for 'Akkam Pakkam' from Kireedam and Pa. Vijay (best lyrics) for the title track of Unnale Unnale.

The highlight of the night came when veteran actor Sivakumar was presented the lifetime achievement award by his talented sons Suriya and Karthi. It was a very emotional moment for the actor.
