He’s given us classic cinema, but the best is yet to come! Kuttra Parambarai, Bharathiraja feels will be a film like no other and will be remembered and revered forever. Judging from the title, we can be sure there will be quite a bit of action and judging from the director’s confidence in the plot, we can be sure the cast will have big names in it.
Ideally, Bharathiraja would love to cast Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in the lead, but he is fully aware of the difficulties of such a venture. Right from getting dates to production costs, having these two moghuls in the same movie would mean meeting several mammoth roadblocks along the way. Bharathiraja calls them the insurmountable Twin Towers of Tamil Cinema. And we all remember that these two actors did in fact apear together in Bharathiraja’s Padhinaaru Vayadhiniley along with Sridevi. Together they made magic that still continues to be talked-about. Can Bharathiraja create another epic? Today is seems quite impossible.
Ask him who he’d pick, if he could cast just one of the two, and after a moment’s thought he chooses Kamal. He is an actor who will go through any lengths to fit the role – reduce weight, put on some, grow his hair, endure layers of make-up and what not. His commitment to cinema peeps out of every role he plays. And what if Kamal was unavailable? Then it just has to be Vikram – another star who has proven himself as a hero capable and willing to do any kind of role. He has the spirit and the skill to carry off even the most difficult get-up.
So who will it be? Rajini, Kamal or Vikram? If all avenues fail, Bharathiraja would play the lead himself, he says! Well, who will be the star strong enough to take on his mighty script?
