It is being said in Kollywood that director Shankar, who is busy finalising the cast and crew for his magnum opus Robot has now replaced one of his crew. That crew member happens to be the film’s cinematographer.
The ace director had earlier said that lensman Thiru would be the cinematographer for his film. But, now it is learnt that Thiru has been replaced with noted cinematographer Ratnavelu as the former could not allot bulk dates that were requested by Shankar. Also, Thiru is said to have charged more forcing Shankar to replace him.
Ratnavelu is the cinematographer of acclaimed films like Sethu, Nandha, Perazhagan and Jayam. He is currently handling the camera for Gautam Menon’s forthcoming Vaaranamaayiram. Randy, as he is affectionately called by his friends in the industry, is quite ready to work with Shankar in a film that stars superstar Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles.
Finding the perfect cinematographer for the film has been Shankar’s biggest task ever since the project was announced. Since his good friend K.V. Anand was taking a break from cinematography to direct his own film, Ayan, Shankar decided to rope in Nirav Shah, the man who shot Billa. But, Nirav too did not stay as he also wanted to be a part of his long time friend Vishnuvardhan’s next film Sarvam. It was then that Shankar had roped in Thiru. But, now, Thiru too has backed out of the project.
Robot is touted to become the most expensive film in India and is produced jointly by Eros Multimedia and Ayngaran International. The sci-fi film has music by maestro A.R. Rahman. The film also happens to be the last project that writer Sujatha worked on before his unfortunate demise. The film’s shoot is set to commence by May.
