The Kerala rights of Vikram’s Kanthaswamy have been sold for a whopping Rs. 2 crores. Kanthaswamy stars Vikram and Shriya in the lead roles and is directed by Susi Ganesan. The big budget film is produced by Kalaipuli S. Dhanu.
Tamil films are in great demand among Kerala distributors. Rajni’s Sivaji, Ajith's Billa and Vijay’s Pokkiri released last year had record collections at the box office, even beating the collections of films by Malayalam superstars. Last week, a Kerala producer-distributor, Mahi, procured the rights of Vijay’s forthcoming film, Kuruvi, for a record 1.5 crores.
Like Vijay, Vikram commands a huge following in Kerala as he has been a part of the Malayalam film industry in the 90s. His Anniyan was a huge hit in Kerala. The rights of Kanthaswamy has been bagged by Sibu, who has earlier successfully released Anniyan and Pokkiri.
