Tamil Film distribution has a new entrant, Reliance Entertainment, an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company. They have purchased the theatrical rights of Nepali, the Bharath- Meera Jasmine action entertainer, for NSC and Madurai area. It will release on on April 10 in time for Tamil New Year.
Nepali, directed by V. Z. Dhorai is a hip flick from the youth brigade. The Reliance Entertainment policy in the state seems to be to buy commercially viable small and medium budget movies. The company also owns three theatres in NSC area, moving slowly into the theatre business.
The market buzz is that Nepali cost Rs 1.40 Crore for NSC and 90 lakhs for Madurai, a reasonable buy. Reliance Entertainment entry into Tamil Nadu, augers well for Kollywood especially the younger set of heros, whose films will now become financially viable.
