The Shakti Foundation was born in 1992 out of the anguish faced by Velan’s parents who lost their only son to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 1998. Rather than lamenting the untimely bereavement of their son, they made up their minds to continue the torch lit by him – to make the general public responsive to the needs of similar victims. The Shakti Foundation’s message is ‘Heal the World’; its mission statement – ‘Life is short. So work/ play hard’.
The foundation organises fund-raising programmes on a regular basis. Keeping with this trend, the foundation is organising a musical programme "Tamoghna 2008". The programme will bring together four amazing musicians: Mandolin exponents and brothers U. Srinivas and U. Rajesh, keyboard wizard Loy Mendonsa and percussionist Pete Lockett on February 23rd 2008 at Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Chetpet, Chennai.
