The Sri Sivakumar Educational Trust held a function in Chennai recently. The Trust, which has been functioning since 1979, selects performing students and provides aid for their education. The prize money started with just Rs.2500 and currently stands at 1.35 lakhs. 12 students passing 12th exams (each 10000), and 3 blind students (each 5000) were awarded at the function.
The function was inagurated with an invocation by Brinda Sivakumar. Sivakumar, who spoke at the function, expressed his happiness and urged the students to work hard and be dutiful towards their parents. The celebrity sons Suriya and Karthi were also present on the ocassion.
Suriya also runs a trust named Agaram Foundation aimed at providing education for all. The trust is approved by the government. It has adopted a school in Chengalpet.
