A four-day Sri Lankan film festival, to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka, opened at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce auditorium, Chennai on Monday.
The festival, organized by Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner, Chennai, Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation and Madras Film Society in association with the Federation of Film Societies of India, will continue till July 24.
Inaugurating the festival, P.M. Amza (Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai) highlighted the cultural ties between both countries. Sri Lankan art and culture were heavily influenced by India, particularly Tamil Nadu and Tamil, which is a common language, he said.
Pooja, who recently acted in a Sri Lankan film, is expected to participate in this festival. Following the success of Pooja's film, Monica too is acting in a Lankan film. Sri Lankan government too is encouraging inclusion of artists from Kollywood these days.
