Singapore saw a fantastic and glittering evening yesterday, December 23rd, as stars got together on stage to celebrate 75 years of Tamil Cinema.
In an evening of song, dance and much laughter, one could see everyone, from Manorama, Saroja Devi, Prabhu, Sathyaraj, Sarathkumar, Radikaa and Sreepriya to Madhavan, Reema Sen, Shaam, Jeeva, Sangitha, Sandya, Padmapriya, Lakshmi Rai and Ragasiya shake a leg, crack jokes and thoroughly entertain their fans in Singapore.
The concept was simple: how does one make a movie? From script to screens, the Mega Star Nite was a confluence of reality, inspiration, dream-sequences and great fun as directors, musicians and actors got together and made the “movie” happen.
Of course, the highlight of the show was the breathtaking appearance and speech by Suriya. It all started with a little playacting about how Suriya was NOT in Singapore and then, suddenly, he walked onto the stage, looking dashing in jeans and a crystal-studded jacket and of course, his guileless smile. The crowd went crazy when he was joined by his brother Karthi, the hottest young actor in Tamil cinema. They came onstage to take Nadigar Sangam’s tribute to their father, Mr. Sivakumar, for outstanding contribution to cinema. After a moving speech, Suriya and Karthi joined the fun and danced along to many of the cues that came next.
Yet another highlight of the programme was the beautiful Sneha, who walked onto the stage and gave an impromptu performance by singing a few of her favourite Tamil songs.
The programme came to an end with a thumping ovation and cheering – Singapore was happy!
