Sun TV, the numero uno Tamil cable channel forayed into a filmmaking on September 8th. Sun Pictures – the film production company started by Sun Network, which is a pioneer in Tamil cable channels – was launched in style in a grand function. For a start, Sun Pictures have acquired the film rights of Kadhalil Vizhunten, Thee, Thenavettu, and Siva Manasula Sakthi (SMS) and will release them worldwide.

The launch function started with a welcome speech from Sun TV’s COO Hansraj Saxena, who promised that Sun Pictures will emulate Sun TV’s excellence and become a huge success very soon. The function was attended by many Kollywood stars and VIPs, including actor Pandiarajan, Sundar C. and Thee director Kicha; actor Jiiva, Thenavettu director Kadhir, and SMS producer Srinivasan; Kadhalil Vizhunthen hero Nakul, director Prasad and music director Vijay Anthony.
Trailers of these four films were screened at the function. Following this, the logo of Sun Pictures was unveiled.
Speaking on the occasion, Sundar C. said that Sun TV has played a vital role in his growth by promoting his films on their channel. Jiiva too supported Sundar C.’s thoughts and he also thanked Sun Pictures for selecting two of his films – Thenavettu and SMS. When producer Srinivasan spoke, he said that he is proud of his friendship with the founders of Sun TV.
