Karpaga makes her debut as heroine in a Tamil film Paal. In the same league as so many youngsters making debuts, what is special about Karpaga? Well, Karpaga is the first transgender in the country to play the lead role in mainstream cinema.
Paal, directed by D. Sivakumar, is the story of a transgender in love who is scared to reveal her sexuality to her lover. Choreographer-turned-acter Kadhal Kandhas plays the hero. Revathy plays the role of Karpaga's mother.
Karpaga belongs to a middle-class family from Erode. An only son, he left home at 17. When he returned home after five years, he had become Karpaga. His family was disappointed at first, but they accepted their son, now daughter.
Karpaga is working very hard for this movie. She has done a crash course in acting and is also taking dance lessons.
Galatta.com wishes Karpaga all the best for her film and all future endeavours.
