Vinodh, the young man who made a small appearance in Chennai 600 028, is proud owner of a music company today. Remember the stylish lad with long hair in the movie, who walks into the salon asking for a haircut and runs away with fear as soon as Mirchi Shiva warns him about the shop’s dubious record! Yes! That stylish lad is Vinodh Kumar, brother of actor Vijay Vasanth (of Chennai 600 028 and Thozha fame) and son of renowned businessman-politician Vasanth Kumar.
The young man is as entrepreneurial as his father; he has started his own music company, as music has always been his passion. Named Triple V, the music company’s first album – Vizhiyum Seviyum – was released recently in a grand function by Vasanth Kumar and Yuvanshankar Raja. The grand event was attended by several Kollywood VIPs including Dharani, Venkat Prabhu, V. Sekar, S.P. Charan, Prem G. Amaran, Harish Ragavendra and Aravind.

Galatta.com met Vinodh Kumar to know more about the album and his ambitions. An enthusiastic Vinodh Kumar described the album as his earnest attempt to take pop music to a new level in Tamil Nadu and to give a chance to deserving music directors. Says Vinodh: “Right through my childhood, I have been passionate about music. I always wanted to do something for music itself. And it disturbed me a little when I realized people here see music as a part of movies. I always told myself that one day, I will start a music company, produce incredibly good music albums and establish the music industry in Tamil Nadu. Today my dream has come true.”
Though he has a successful father, Vinodh is not the type to bask in his reflected glory. When his father offered him a chance to join family business and his brother bagged him film offers, Vinodh was steady in his decision to enter music industry. When questioned about his role in Chennai 600028, the young man shyly says that he did it for fun and is not really interested in films! “I like watching movies and I enjoy my brother’s performance in cinema, but I am not interested in acting. I am definitely interested in movie direction though. To direct a movie is like telling a story. And I like that form of creativity.” Though Vinodh got several film offers after his brief appearance in Chennai 600 028, he had rejected them all to concentrate on his music company. Now, his brainchild – Triple V Records – has started its journey and will try to make music industry as magnificent as film industry.
The album Vizhiyum Seviyum features nine songs – seven Tamil and two English – composed by Prem G., Sami Yusuf, and Dr. Berne. And every song is unique and attractive. The sweetest news is that this musical delight does not burn a hole in your wallet, like most musical albums do; each CD costs Rs. 99 only!
While singing off, young entrepreneur Vinodh requests you to support him by buying the CD instead of illegally downloading the songs.
