Deepavali 2006 may not see a spate of megastar movies with the likes of Rajinikant or Kamal Haasan, but we will definitely watch the hottest firebrands scorch the screens with their skills. Here's a look at Galatta.com's favourites for this Deepavali:
Thalaimagan
Sarath Kumar's Thalaimagan is a great movie (yes, we've seen it and we like it!) with a great concept and a nice mix of masala and message.
Radaan Mediaworks' first venture with debut director and leading hero Sarath Kumar sees him in the role of a conscientious journo battling the forces of the bad guys. With him is his Ayya co-star Nayantara. The movies looks slick and Sarath looks dashing. Good luck, Team Thalaimagan!

E
Jeeva has quietly wormed his way to the audience's hearts and minds with great performances in Ram and Dishyum. He maintains this trend in E, an interesting story of Easwaran, a young petty thief from the slums who just keeps getting himself in trouble. A brave role - not quite negative and not quite a hero, but very interesting.
Here's to Jeeva and the team of E!

Valavaan
Little Superstar Silambarasan's Valavaan has taken a long time to release, but it looks like it will pack the same punch, regardless.
Unabashedly a masala entertainer, there're 3 heroines, 1 Simbu and some great music. An action-romance-comedy, Valavaan looks like Simbhu's directorial debut is going to be quite a smash hit.

Vattaram
Arya just can't stop the rush! He's now really a force to reckon with, among the young leading men of Tamil cinema, with a spate of hits from Ullam Ketkume to Arindhum Ariyamalum to Pattiyal and now, Vattaram.
And interesting role again, Arya gets into the character of a local gun smuggler and his down-and-dirty life in this risky profession. Ravishing Keerath hits it off with him on-screen and Napolean looks cool as the underworld mentor.
With music by Bharadwaj, director Saran seems to be sitting pretty on what could be yet another runaway hit for the team of Vattaram!
Way to go!
