Pongal is a much awaited time for movie releases. However many movies did not make it to the silver screen this time. However the movies that finally made it were Ajith's Aalwar, Vijay's Pokkiri, Mani Rathnam's Guru and Vishal's Thaamirabarani.
Aalwar has had a grand opening as usual. Ajith stars with Asin in this movie.
Pokkiri is also running to packed houses and it has Vijay and Asin in the lead roles.

Guru is already declared a megahit and it was the first of the lot to be released. It stars Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.
Thaamirabharani is yet another feather in Vishal's cap. It stars Vishal and debutante Banu.

There are however the movies that did not make it for Pongal. They are the following.
Paruthi Veeran is a very eagerly awaited film. Suriya's brother Karthi makes his debut in this movie, which has been in the making for over an year.
Veerasamy has T. Rajendar He has also composed the songs. Aziz is the hero and the lovely Meghna Naidu and Mumtaz are the heroines.
Kalakkara Chandru is a phrase that has become very popular because of a paint advertisement. Karthik intends to make it even more popular by acting in the movie called Kalakkara Chandru, where he dons the role of a lawyer. The movie also has Pandiarajan and fresh face Anu. It has been directed by Raviraja. Unfortunately this movie also did not release for Pongal.
