One would think that after enacting the challenging role of Periyar in the film of the same name, Satyaraj would rest on his laurels and act his age, looking for seemly, stolid character roles.
Right? Wrong!
Sathyaraj will soon literally don the grease paint when he appers as a Kathakali artist in Vambu Chandai. The elaborate make-up of a Kathakali artist takes about four hours. This means that no matter how long the shoot takes, it starts over four hours earlier for Satyaraj, and ends over one lhour later when he removes all the makeup. Satyamma (truly). He is being assisted by four Kathakali artists from Ottapalam, Kerala to prepare for this role. As usual, Sathyaraj the perfectionist stopped his efforts only when he was pleased with the results.
